Abercynon RFC is delighted to announce the arrival of Gareth Nicholas as head coach, a Level Four qualified coach who is well known and greatly respected throughout the rugby community worldwide. Gareth, who played a vital part in helping the club avoid relegation has agreed to take up the post for the season ahead and will be ably assisted by his wing man Sam(Beans) Campbell, who for a young man done a great job last year. Sam will also remain as Club Captain whilst occupying his player/coach role. Grant Eynon is also remaining as Team manager
Abercynon RFC have just closed out last season with their annual awards evening and there is an air of optimism around the club for the forthcoming season with the news of the new coaching setup and some quality players coming through from our youth section.
Much hard work has been done behind the scenes since the end of last season, with everyone involved in the club keen to turn around the clubs fortunes on the field and create the ‘buzz’ which was evident at the end of last season when the club stuck together as a whole and narrowly avoided relegation.
A big part of Gareth will bring with him a sense of expectation from all his players and everyone at the club. Gareth was video linked in the awards night and stated that he is looking forward to working with a talented bunch of boys who showed allot of passion and enthusiasm at the end of last season.
Gareth will be holding a meeting at Abercynon Rugby Club @7pm on Tuesday 20th June. Gareth would like to welcome everyone along to the meeting; this includes supporters, minis teams, parents, past players, new players and anyone interested in Abercynon RFC.
