Abercynon RFC Youth Team had their Awards Evening on Saturday 8th June. A great night was had by all with past players and committee presenting the awards and providing encouraging speeches as a tribute to this group of coaches and young players. The outlook on the future of Abercynon RFC is looking very positive with a number of members of the team now migrating to the senior ranks of the club.
The playing side itself was reflected upon as ''what could have been'' if a few key moments had gone their way, most notably the Cup Semi Final at Y Parc against our local neighbors. Throughout the season, the players have been a credit to themselves and the club both on and off the field and were lead admirably by Captain Connor Dixon.
The team decided to finish the season in style with a good old end of season ''Overseas'' tour to the party town of Magaluf.
Onto the awards and the first award presented was for:-
Player of the year- Arwel Hughes
Players Player of the Year- Rhys Howells
Aberflyhalf Award - Oliver Carey
Most Promising- Connor Dixon
Coaches Award - Connor Dixon- Youth Team Captain
Top Try Scorer - Kian Monaghan
Abercynon RFC would like to offer a massive Thank You to Team Manager Michael Sheehan, coaches Gareth Jones, Jamie Price and Ben Breakspear who have worked hard and given so much of their own time and dedication with this group of players. All four have enjoyed their commitment to the team and can be proud of their achievement in nurturing the current crop of young talent. The club are very grateful for their efforts and contribution throughout and keeping the production chain going for our senior team.
