Abercynon RFC Youth team celebrated their awards evening on Friday June 15th at the clubhouse after a very successful season, in which they were crowned WRU League BD Champions 2017-18 after remaining unbeaten all season in all league games.
The team coached by Gareth Jones, Jamie Price and Team Manager Michael Sheehan went from strength to strength throughout the season and were a credit to the club, coaches and their parents. In one of their penultimate games there was strength in numbers and the coaches had 30 players available for selection and on another occasion whilst the older generation of the Youth team had left the country for a great tour to Albuferia, the younger generation still had enough numbers to field a team and win a friendly game away.
Throughout the season members of the Youth team were often called upon for the Senior 1st/2nd XV and were a credit to themselves and delivered some great performance whilst taking the field with our senior counterparts.
The awards themselves was a difficult choice with so many candidates putting their name up to be in the selection process. However the top awards went to the industrious and ever impressive Connor Dixon. Connor who still has a year left with the youth team won the Player of the Year award and also picked up the Players Player of the Year award, selected by his fellow players.
