Abercynon RFC’s Awards Night

Abercynon RFC’s presentation night took place on Friday 16th June. 

The night was a great success with the Caterers doing a grand job serving the four course meal. Rowland Phillips our guest speaker held his audience well whilst sharing his extensive experiences from around the rugby world. Rowland also had a fair knowledge about Abercynon RFC and gave a great assessment of the Turner Brothers.

Chairman Mark Bowcott hosted the evening and on behalf of the committee, welcomed all players, guests and sponsors to the evening and issued his gratitude for the tireless voluntary work performed by so many individuals at the club. There are too many to mention here, but needless to say the club is exceptionally grateful for their time, effort and generosity.

A special mention went to the mini section where the majority of current crop of senior team players have developed through the ranks. The future of the club looks promising with so many minis players representing the club at district school levels and academies. The ultimate accolade for the club and junior section was Garyn Phillips gaining his Under 16s Welsh Cap.

There was also a mention to all the senior coaches for their hard work, commitment and dedication throughout a very difficult season.

Over to the awards and Luke Price cleaned up the top awards and won the most coveted prize of 1st Team Player of the Year that was chosen by coaches and Team manager and he also picked up the Players Player Award picked by his fellow players.  Luke a strong ball carrying and big hitting number 8 who was in his first year of senior rugby, was a deserved winner of the awards and follows in the footsteps of his uncles Jeff and Donald Pardoe.
