Abercynon RFC are pleased to announce the signing of Louis Garland for the 2024/25 season. The 28-year-old who plays in the second row is returning to rugby after an extended break.
After developing a deep passion for the game at the age of 10, Louis started playing for Pontypridd RFC while at the same time playing for his school Ysgol Gyfun Cymer Rhondda, notably helping them win the Welsh Schools Cup in 2010.
Shortly after, Louis moved on to play for Cardiff Schools and was part of the Dewar Shield winning team in 2011. He then entered the Cardiff Rugby Pathway where he stayed until the age of 18.
His senior rugby career saw him play for the Cardiff Quins before taking a break from the sport to focus on his family.
On signing for Abercynon, Louis said: “Having watched Abercynon play over the past couple of seasons and seeing how the players work as a team, I cannot wait to get involved and playing my part in consistently bringing back the victories for our supporters.”
Forwards coach Sam Evans said: “Louis brings a physical presence that we’ve lacked in the last few years and has impressed us with his incredible skill set during our training sessions so far. Personally, I’ve known him for a long time through the Cardiff Blues age grade system, and I’m really excited to see him on the pitch in an Abercynon jersey.”
Welcome Louis, and all the best!
