Abercynon RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Alex Burton for the 2024/25 season.
The 27-year-old centre, who can also play at Scrum Half, has played for a variety of clubs across almost 20 years of playing the sport.
Starting his journey into rugby via Aberdare’s mini and junior’s system, he then progressed onto their youth team before moving to Glynneath RFC, also playing for Hirwaun RFC in the years in-between.
For the last two seasons, Alex has also played Rugby League for the Cynon Valley Cavaliers. His time in Rugby League has seen him impressively capped for the Wales Dragonhearts and the West Wales Rugby League.
On signing, Alex said: “I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with the squad and earning my place within the team across the season. I hope I can play a part in hopefully picking up some silverware this year.”
Backs coach Dean Gunter said: “Alex is a powerhouse of a centre and will bring a lot of physicality to our game. He’s joined us from Glynneath who have been very successful over the last few years.
“Alex will bring a lot of experience to our young back line. I’m really pleased that we’ve finally got him to sign for us! We can now try a lot of different combinations we haven’t been able to before. I’m looking forward to working with him for the upcoming season."
Great to have you onboard Alex! All the best!
