Abercynon RFC are pleased to announce the signing of Taz Deabreu for our second season in Division 1.
The 36-year-old prop has played for a variety of different clubs over his 27 years in the sport, most notably at Championship level with Tata Steel RFC and Cardiff RFC in the Premiership.
His first experience with rugby was at the age of 9 when he started playing at school, leading him to join St. Joseph’s RFC Mini and Junior ranks where he began his development. He eventually signed for Rhiwbina RFC, most notably part of the squad that reached the final of 2014 Swalec Plate – narrowly losing out to Merthyr RFC.
On signing, Taz said: “I am looking forward to a fresh start and a new challenge, hoping my vast experience of playing at a competitive level will benefit Abercynon on their search for promotion. I’m looking forward to being a part of the squad every week and hopefully achieving that ultimate goal.”
Forwards coach Sam Evans said: “Taz brings with him lots of experience having played so much of his rugby in the top leagues which will be vital for us going forward. He impressed us in his two games for us at the end of last season and has continued to impress in our pre-season training sessions – showing his leadership and impressive skill set in the front row.”
Great to have with you with us Taz, and all the best for the new season!
