Philip Currie was a long time supporter and member of Abercynon RFC. Following a long illness his recent passing at the age of 79 has saddened everyone at the club.
For a number of years, from the early 1980s onward, Phil was 'domiciled' in Saudi Arabia owing to his employment in the aircraft industry. However, he kept closely in touch with the club's fortunes throughout. Upon his return to Abercynon, Phil served on the club committee and subsequently, as Fixture Secretary.
Phil was a keen club tourer and rarely missed an opportunity to travel. Having survived the rigours of Prague in 2004, Phil amused many during Abercynon's tour of Canada in 2010.
While in Niagara, his comical, but vain attempt to negotiate with an over-zealous American border guard to allow him to cross the Canada/USA bridge into Buffalow, New York State, will never be forgotten.
Abercynon RFC wish to offer their sincere condolences to Phil's wife Carol, son Nigel, daughter Judith and their respective families.
