Abercynon RFC are pleased to announce the signing of Jarryd Davies ahead of a massive 2024/25 season. The 27-year-old, who plays in the second row, returns back to where it all began.
Having gone through our Mini and Junior ranks all the way up to youth, Jarryd then moved on to play for Premiership side Merthyr RFC – notably part of the team which won two league titles and the league cup.
After moving to Brecon RFC and helping them win their league cup, Jarryd then made the jump into rugby league, signing for the West Wales Raiders before the COVID-19 pandemic put an abrupt end to that season.
Jarryd has also played for Neath, Blaenavon and Bedlinog over a career spanning around 20 years, but we are excited to see him back in the Abercynon jersey for this season, and all the experience he brings with him.
On signing, Jarryd said: “After playing elsewhere for a number of years, it’s nice to be able to finish off my career at my home club where I hope we can achieve some big things this season.
“With an ACL injury forcing me out of the sport for two years, I am thankfully getting fitter each day, and I’m really looking forward to getting back in action at the club where it began for me all those years ago.”
Forwards coach Sam Evans said: “It’s great to welcome Jarryd back home to the Cynon! He’s enjoyed stints with Brecon and Merthyr before a long injury which forced him out of the game. He brings with him a physical and mental edge that not many players possess!
“He’s a hard hitting player and a leader out there on the pitch. He’ll add Premiership experience to our young squad and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in red and black this season!”
