Matthew Rutter signs for Abercynon RFC

Abercynon RFC are happy to announce the signing of Matthew Rutter ahead of the new season getting underway in just a few weeks!

The 35-year-old prop, who can also play as hooker, started playing rugby at the age of 15 with Pontyclun RFC, notably part of the squad that took the club up from Division 5, to Division 3.

In a playing career spanning more than 20 years, he describes himself as having played ‘more clubs than Tiger Woods' - Cilfynydd and Gilfach Goch just to name two, but we can’t wait to see him don the red and black jersey for Abercynon this season.

On signing, Matthew said: “It’s been great being involved with such a great bunch of boys so far and I’m really looking forward to the season starting.  As well as playing, I’ve started coaching Abercynon U8’s which has been something I’ve enjoyed so far. Bring on the new season!”

Forwards coach Sam Evans said: “Matthew will most certainly add to our fire power in the front row. He brings with him the experience our young squad needs and is always one of the hardest workers in the room. He’s brilliant on and off the pitch, and will sure take our younger players under his wing during the team socials.”

Great to have you onboard Matthew, and good luck!
