Abercynon RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Johnross Owens from Treharris RFC ahead of our second season in Division 1 East Central.
The 33-year-old tighthead prop started his journey into the sport at just 8-years-old, coming through Treharris RFC’s Mini and Junior ranks until the age of 16.
Johnross then signed for Bedlinog RFC’s youth team before taking a break from rugby at the age of 19 due to work commitments. He returned to Treharris at the age of 25 where he’s been ever since.
After having a couple of games for us last year, we’re looking forward to seeing him don the Cynon jersey full time in the 2024/25 season.
On signing, Johnross said: “I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season playing for Abercynon. It’s a young and exciting squad with so much potential and I’m thrilled to be part of what is hopefully going to be a great season.”
Forwards coach Sam Evans said: “Johnross is a player I’ve tried to get to the club for a long time. He showed his class last year in our two derby wins against Mountain Ash and Aberdare, and we are really excited that he has finally signed for Abercynon.
“He brings the leadership and experience we need in our young squad and has been setting the standards very high at training so far. No doubt he’ll be one of the best tightheads in the league and will be integral to us having a successful season.”
Welcome to the team Johnross, wishing you every success!
