Many fine players have taken the field wearing an Abercynon RFC shirt. Alan ‘Nobby’ Lock was prominent among them. An intelligent, ball-handling and free-running number 8, Alan earned his Club Cap by notching up 300 games during his Abercynon career.
His on-field endeavours enabled the club to twice capture the prestigious Glamorgan County Silver Ball Trophy, firstly in 1973 and scoring a try in the 1977 victory. He was also capped by the Mid District Rugby Union having played many times for them.
Alan’s recent passing at the age of 75 has saddened many of those who fondly remember his exploits from a golden playing era.
Abercynon RFC recognise the outstanding contribution Alan made to the Club over many years and sincere condolences are extended to his wife Brenda, son Stuart and partner Nikki, their children Ramona, Xavier and Naiome, daughter Katherine and her partner David.
