A tribute to Steve Pascoe

Steve Pascoe joined Abercynon RFC at the start of 1994/95 season. His sudden passing, at the age of 59 has shocked and saddened the rugby community throughout the Cynon Valley.

Prior to joining Cynon Steve had graduated through the youth ranks at Mountain Ash RFC to become a most accomplished first team player and captain.

On making his Abercynon debut on August 27th 1994 Steve, playing at blind side flanker, crossed for a try in a 30-8 defeat of Cross Keys at Y Parc. Impressive performances from him throughout the season helped to establish Abercynon as genuine Division 1 promotion challengers. However, a narrow loss in a crucial game at Ebbw Vale scuppered their chances but in defeat, Steve Pascoe was outstanding in arguably his best game for the club.

In 1995/96 season Steve was elected as Abercynon club captain. Throughout that season he continued to play with the commitment and panache that he had been renowned for. Abercynon were most disappointed that Steve Pascoe decided to seek pastures new following his second season with them. He did though, leave an indelible mark on all who knew him. Yes, he was an outstanding player but even more importantly, he was an outstanding man too.

Abercynon RFC offer their sincere condolences to Steve's wife Claire, son Thomas and daughters Sarah, Hannah and Emma, and the entire Pascoe family and friends.

Steve's funeral will be held at Our Lady's Church Mountain Ash this Friday 24th May at 1-30. Followed by cremation at Llwydcoed Crematorium at 3pm.
